We are in the early stages of a “business pandemic” …
Will your company and your life be ripped apart again?
And how?
ChatGPT and related technologies are taking a wrecking ball to Internet marketing. “Content generation” is already being decimated.
Jobs are already being lost or taken off the hiring table. Companies are in peril if not already gone.
But it will not stop there …
ChatGPT and cousins have already “infected” business around the world. Future AI evolution will create more upheaval.
There are epic implications for knowledge and communication everywhere. Not just marketing companies or marketing departments.
Some are making comparisons to when electricity was introduced. Electricity upended how business worked and even made obsolete some services or products. (Have a kerosene lamp at home or work? Use animals to power machines? A washboard for cleaning clothes?).
Old businesses and industries disappeared almost overnight.
New businesses and industries appeared almost overnight.
This is not about being an alarmist, but being a realist.
Whether we like it or not, the AI wave will be far more disruptive than most think.
It will be more than just some helpful apps. It will affect many lives.
ChatGPT has the fastest adoption curve of any product in history … and it’s not done yet. The AI wave is not only moving, it’s also moving faster.
This wave will also last far longer than current economic down cycles … including job losses and company closures or devaluations, particularly in technology.
There will be no natural swing back in the other direction, like with economic cycles.
Even worse, this wave is on top of wavelets still rippling from the “other” pandemic … like battles over where workers work and sweeping alterations in worker expectations.
Call it what you want … tsunami, earthquake, wrecking ball … organizations are in upheaval.
It will be both a matter of survival (for many) and fortune (for some) to determine what this tipping point means specifically to them. To their business and their lives.
NOT changing now is the risky move … changing is the safer move.
Not many will see the ramifications, just like the early stages of the COVID crisis. Even some of those will resist the “new.”
Consider this:
In normal times, 80% of businesses get the leftovers in the market, if anything is even left over:
➳ Those 80% get only 20%
➳ 20% of businesses get 80%
➳ 4% achieve 64%
➳ And just 0.8% get 51% – this means about 1 in every 100 businesses accrue HALF the new wealth.
Those are the “normal” 80/20 curve effects … but we are no longer in the normal during upheaval.
“Normal” was before the AI-enabled tipping point of major change … before COVID changed the workplace in many ways … before societal changes affected how people work …
It may well be a 95/5 (or worse) ratio right now. 95% of businesses will get just 5% of their markets, while the top 5% get 95%. It might even be 99/1 … and those on the bottom end of the curve will have little left indeed.
What the specific effects to you will be, ultimately, only you and those in your company can answer.
But you must answer … not answering or delaying has no upside in this case.
If you need help doing so, our programs facilitate the process of answering and provide targeted new/enhanced skills.
What about leaders and managers?
The last 3+ years changed what effective leadership and management look like. ChatGPT effects have accelerated them again.
Effective leading and managing may be the same from a foundational principles perspective. However, the tactics have certainly changed … and are still changing as you read this.
How you led in the past simply won’t work anymore.
It is not your fault or the fault of other leaders.
How to deal with this was not – is not – taught in regular MBA or leadership development programs.
With unprecedented change, comes unprecedented challenges.
Leaders need relevant skills to effectively manage the challenges. AND they need to start learning and applying those skills now … not next year or the year after.
Machines can do almost everything we want them to do except solve the most pressing problems. Except, most importantly, define what the problems actually are.
And as machines solve more and more problems, bigger problems will arise. With bigger problems come bigger risks and bigger opportunities. Bigger risks and opportunities will take bigger capabilities in your business to solve and seize.
And a compounding dynamic is that not only are the leaders not ready, neither are the workers. They have not been trained to deal with the new tactics either. Some have not been trained in the principles even.
This is why we have invested 2 months in early 2023 to better equip leaders to deal with these changes.
One result is the AI-Enabled Leader program.
The program includes the proven Applied MBA Peer foundation. Participants apply in their workplace what they are learning during the program. This removes the Achilles heel of ineffective traditional training.
It also incorporates the unique Compounded Performance Projects Method™. It can produce a positive ROI, where the program pays for itself and produces continuing, real returns.
“I love this concept. Asking whether or not AI is a “threat” to modern workers is so short-sighted. It’s a tool! Let’s equip leaders to use this tool well and responsibly, without losing out on the benefits the tool offers.”

People will be replaced by AI … AND by people using AI.
